When exposed to oxygen in the air, water, or soil, aluminum reacts to form a thin coating of aluminum oxide that chemically bonds to its surface. Aluminum oxide hardens onto the metal as a greyish-white powdery substance, similar to how rust develops on metals like steel.
What happens when aluminum gets wet?
In what way and in what form does aluminum react with water? Aluminum metal rapidly develops a thin layer of aluminum oxide of a few millimeters that prevents the metal from reacting with water. When this layer is corroded a reaction develops, releasing highly flammable hydrogen gas.
Will vinegar stop aluminum corrosion?
By combining distilled water with either pure lemon juice or white vinegar, and then gently agitating the corroded area with a mild scrubbing pad, most mild cases of aluminum corrosion can be removed.
Is aluminum better than stainless steel?

1000 Series:Industrial Pure Aluminum
Represents the 1000 series of aluminium sheets, also known as pure aluminium sheets, in all series, 1000 series belongs to the series with the largest aluminium content. The purity can reach over 99.00%.
2000 Series:Aluminum-copper alloys
The aluminium sheet representing 2A16 (LY16) 2A06 (LY6) 2000 series is characterized by high hardness, in which the content of copper is the highest, about 3-5%.
3000 Series:Aluminum-manganese alloys
